Night two in crib

So Leiland was having a rough night. He wasn't sleeping well all day long yesterday and was just exhausted. He fell asleep but only slept for 30 minutes. I got him down around 7 in the swing. I left him there until I went upstairs at 11:00 and fed him before putting him in his crib. I laid him on his back before going to bed. He woke at 3 to eat and then I put him back in his crib, only on his belly this time. He slept until 830.

Yeah the whole night in his crib. What a big boy.

Its now 10:35 and he has been in his crib since 8:30. He didn't nap well today so maybe he will sleep good again tonight.

Night 1

Went pretty well I suppose. Leiland ate at 11pm and I went to bed at midnight. He woke at 3:30 to eat and I heard him before he was really crying but it was definitely later then I would usually wake to feed him. So when I got him he was SOAKED from his diaper. SO I had to change his diaper and clothes which really woke him up. He ate with no problem then the dogs went crazy. So he was not going right back to sleep. I was exhausted so I just brought him back to bed with me. He slept till 6:30 when I fed him in the bed (still isn't working for us) and then he was ready to get up.

So not terrible, we will try again tonight. It was much easier this time then the last time I tried. I think I am more ready now.

First night in crib

Who knew putting your baby in their crib could be so hard. I am still very torn with this, but I know its what we need to do. He is a very clingy boy and if I don't get him sleeping on his own at night, I will never get a thing done. So tonight he went up to bed at 6:30 and woke at 11:00pm to eat. I fed him in our room and placed him back in his crib. He tossed a little but did fall back to sleep.

I'll update tomorrow noting how he does. I think its going to be easier for him then it will be for me. I miss him already but I know this is what I need to do.

Leilands First Flight

Today I took Leiland on his very first plane ride. We flew from Las Vegas to Atlanta. We got to the airport at 630 for an 8am flight. By the time we got to the check in line it was almost 7. Security was really quick and no hassle as all. When I arrived to the gate they were already boarding. I took a minute to email Tim just so he knew we had arrived. I got on the plane and we were towards the back and had a window seat. I carried Leiland in the ergo carrier which was great but I took it off to buckle myself and nurse leiland. He fell asleep and didn't care about takeoff. It was really hard to get comfortable and I was so hungry but we made it. At about an hour out I moved and it upset Leiland and he wanted to eat again. So I fed him and he kept sleeping. He stayed asleep through the landing and taxiing. He started to fuss when I had to move him to put the ergo back on. He was fine except he wanted me to be moving.

After the flight we walked toward baggage. I walked as we usually do instead of using the tram and that was a little much. I got my bags as soon as I arrived to baggage claim. An attendant helped me and wheeled my bag and the car seat to the rental car check in. I got my car no problem and we were on our way. Leiland did great and woke at the avis station with a smile on. I loaded the car and programmed the GPS to be on our way.

In the car Leiland got pretty upset. After 30 minutes in bad traffic I had to pull over to let him out. Poor guy. So I found a place to park and fed him. I talked and played with him for 30 minutes and talked to Tim for a few. I think That helped because he went to sleep within 5 minutes of driving again. Ever since he has been in a wonderful mood.

I gave him a bath and he is sleeping now. Who knows if the time change will affect him.

Really?

2 months postpartum and my period is starting again. I am exclusively breastfeeding and I had some hope that it would help curb my body going back to that, but its a nogo for me. LAME!

Maybe there is hope that it won't come back next month??? Who knows.

Puppy Update

It seems like we always have something new to deal with when it comes to the animals. Ebony has seizures, both dogs are overweight, Gepetto has been hurt outside on a couple occasions, one or the other dog gets a limp, is puking, or just acting funny - it never ends.

We took Rory into the vet in October before going to MI because her one eye wouldn't open up all the way. Since i had to pay the fee to see the vet, I decided to ask a few questions. Rory stopped jumping on our bed, which is no biggie but its not like her. She would try but fail every time then she just stopped trying. On top of that she was sleeping ALL DAY LONG. She wouldn't come downstairs till 8-9am everyday and just went right back to sleeping.

So the vet did an x-ray and said she had arthritis in her back, so we started her on some meds. They seemed to help a little, but she still wouldn't jump on the bed and sometimes struggled to go up the stairs. In May we decided to take her back and take Ebony who was limping.

They did bloodwork and it turns out Rory's thyroid was really low, so we began a medication once daily to help her. Within a couple days it was a new dog. She was running all over, jumping on the bed, and just had her Rory spunk back. I took her in yesterday to get more blood drawn to see how it was doing. I also had her weighed to see how she was doing. In October she was 29 pounds, in May she was 27, and yesterday she was down to 24. I thought she looked thinner but I am SO happy to see she has lost some of her chub.

Her results came back today and her thyroid was a little high, but the vet wants to keep her on the prescription for now. Im SO happy she is doing better.

2 Months old

Can you believe it? This little boy have been here for 2 whole months now. I can't say its gone by fast because it really does feel like that long. He is a great little boy and sleeps great at night, nurses great, and is so freaking cute. We do struggle with a daytime routine and its hit or miss if I can get him down for a nap. He is growing so fast but I love watching his changes. I don't miss his "newborn-ness" as much as I thought I would, Guess its just because I am so in love with watching him grow.

What he loves:
His monkeys, he still LOVES his monkeys from his mobile

Bath time - he enjoyed his bath more, but not in the tub alone, that freaks him out.

The sound Ah

The word Cheeky

People - he loves seeing new people

Brahms Lullaby - always soothes him

Stroller Rides

His bumbo chair - he loves sitting up

His yellow bright starts dog

What he hates:
The swig - 95% of the time

Being put down for naps

Having a fully loaded poopy diaper (normal poops don't bother him)

Going to sleep

He is getting SO smiley lately and even at night when he is tired and cranky, I can usually rouse a smile or two out of him.

2 Months Breastfeeding and Cloth Diapering

Well we have successfully made it to 2 months.

Leiland has done great with breastfeeding since early on. At first in the hospital we would get him on but he just wouldn't suck, but he also was not fussing or crying for food. I didn't worry but the nurses were pushing me to nurse every couple house and trying to force it. I was so happy to go home knowing that my boy would tell me when he was hungry. Leiland had lost a little weight in the beginning and was jaundiced but he was eating and meeting his pee diaper requirements and well exceeding his poopy diaper requirements. Again, not a worried mama. We had a short stint where I had some nipple soreness but I just learned to be diligent about getting him to open. It was hard with my rather large boobs and his fairly small mouth, but he grew and learned and we are fine. I am happy to say I NEVER considered quitting. I pump but struggle to give him a bottle. But we also struggle still with bottles. Its hit or miss if he will take one but seems to prefer the playtex original with the brown nipples. Overall breastfeeding is more special then I would have expected. We are still learning about each other, but we are getting there. He is a growing boy and he is doing well. We mostly nurse in the chair, I have tried in the bed but can't keep my boob from dropping out of his mouth, maybe when he is a little bigger we will be better with that.

Now we have been cloth diapering since Leiland was 2 weeks old. We have had our struggles that is for sure. And a couple weeks ago we went on a hiatis and wore disposables for about a week. But then Leiland started getting a sore on his waistline from the pampers. I felt so bad and we immediately went back to his cloth diapers. I am still struggling to love cloth, but I don't dislike either. I have a feeling once he starts pooping turds I won't want to do cloth anymore, but I guess some cloth is better then none. We shall see though.

Today

Is Tims birthday

We bought a stroller

And its about time. I have checked Babies R Us numerous time and just wasn't finding what I wanted. Then I found a great one on craigslist, and arranged to pick it up, then the lady told me that evening she sold it to someone else. So the search went on. I couldn't find other stores to purchase strollers from and I wasn't up to ordering one online because I really wanted to touch, feel, and decide which one I wanted.

So after our playdate yesterday Leiland and I drove to Babies R Us in Ontario. I carried him in so I could test out some of the strollers. I found one over by the cribs that was on clearance. After closer inspection I realized I really liked it. It was on sale because the car seat portion was missing, so it was just the stroller. Thats what I have been looking for. So I put Leiland around and tested it through the store. Its so easy to move, the handle has multiple positions for Tim and I, there is a decent basket in it, cup holders, the seat lays completely flat, its a one handed fold, stands up when folded, one handed open, a tray for Leiland, and the sunshade moved down in front if I need to adjust for the sun or even to block wind. Oh, and I put my car seat in it and I can use it that way too.

Im pretty happy with it and Leiland likes it. Its the Chicco Cortina in a tan and orange color scheme

My only complaint would be I wish the seat went a little more upright.

Playdate

Yesterday Leiland and I went down the hill to playgroup with our friends from the mommy group. We had a blast as well. The day started out great with a good nap, transition to the car without waking, and sleeping the whole way. He was in a great mood most the day down there and kept trying to hold hands with all the babies. So cute. This group will be moving to be a weekend thing which kind of sucks for me. When Tim is home we don't go out on the weekends because its the only time we really have together. But for now its fun.

Mark this day

It finally happened. Our first explosive poop - out the diaper - up the back. Leiland was in a disposable that was on the edge of being too small. Luckily we were home because that diaper had disaster potential.

Stretchie?

So, any baby I have EVER known can stretch like a rubber band, but I noticed Leiland can't. He doesn't seem to even like the sitting up position too much, he belly gets in the way. I tried one day (while playing) to stick his toes into his face and he just can't bend enough, its crazy. I have NEVER known a baby that couldn't do that.
